Robbie Burns

"The best laid schemes o' mice an' men / Gang aft agley"

What started out as an excellent plan to paraphrase Burns went astray at the Apex Ranch but I am getting ahead of myself.

A very very strong group of riders headed out this morning on Eastside Road. News filtered down the peleton that the F Troop had a plan.

To this end we sent out JS to set the plan in motion and it succeeded as he pumped the pace up to about 45 kph then handed off to Dan Mac who boosted it to 50 and we had the A Team right where we wanted them.

The F Troop skipped McLean Creek and headed straight to Vaseaux for the usual nature break and then on to Secrest.

Meanwhile the A Team was sprinting away and Brian B who is racing the crit tonight took the OK Falls points.

He and a group returned to Penticton while the rest of the A Team was left to chase the F Troop to White Lake.

On the climb to Twin Lakes everyone came together with the exception of Dan and some others who headed back to town via St. Andrews.

But it did leave a solid contingent to join the F Troop on the road to Apex Ranch.

As the Troop likes to do, they formulated a plan for the descent from the Ranch into town.

And so to Robbie Burns, It would seem that the plan as often happens didn’t get spread to all concerned so Jim, Steve and JS blasted by the entire peleton at the bridge and began the charge in to town.

Scrambling to find a wheel was the order of the day and the chase was on. The A Team led by Ian and Gary reeled in the breakaway but the F Troop must have still been formulating yet another plan.

The overall win today went to Ian with a couple of the CPP boys filling in the minor placings. A strong showing by Gary moved him up from an earlier “participant in the sprint” to a podium finish. This could mean some serious problems for the racers when they return from holidays.

Fortunately, the F Troop knows where the coffee shop is and they wander in questioning the loyalty of Jim M and Steve B.

Good luck to those racing tonight and tomorrow. There is a “Recovery Ride” group leaving Smith and Co Sunday at 9 am.

The usual ride is still on for Wednesday. Don’t forget you can catch Tour de France action at Smith and Co prior to the ride departures.

Hope to see you on one of the rides.
