It would seem that there are certain traditions at have developed over the years.
July long weekend is the Apex climb to plant the flag at the Old Gun Barrel while the August long weekend still involves Apex but it is alittle more confusing.
The cruise to Green Mountain Road allowed several pockets of riders to form since we are at the mercy of the traffic lights.
So when Dan and Kerry grew weary of the pedestrian pace of the group they got stuck with it became apparent that the rest of the A Team would be forced to put in some serious attacks to catch up.
Dave K. did mention that they caught the breakaway but it pretty much took the sting out of the chase group so they decided to rally the troops at Apex Ranch for the descent to Yellow Lake.
Did I mention that July is the ski hill climb because it appears that some of the group thought a time trial to the Gun Barrel would be fun!!!
Given that the ride down to the highway from the Ranch has to be one of the best pieces of downhill riding around, it was good to see such a large strong group form for the descent.
Now it must be noted that little attacks on the bumps are somewhat easy to cover. However, when an attack is made because the wild mustangs have blocked the road that casts a whole new light on the race.
Needless to say, the attack got away and the remaining riders had to pretend that they were animals lovers and really like horses.
The A Team had made their break which left some of their card carrying members to quietly join the F Troop. They got a chance to see how friendly the Troop is and may give up their membership in that cruel and heartless bunch.
But just like in the olden days when all roads led to Rome, all roads lead to the coffee shop. Mind you there were a few riders who decided to go long and haven’t been heard from.
Since it is a long weekend, there are people heading out both Sunday and Monday leaving Smith and Co at 9 am.
