It
is not meant to confuse you but the distances switch between km and
miles because, as students of mathematics, you should be comfortable
with either unit.
As
well, this is a rather lengthy and detailed email which, hopefully,
clarifies all the combinations and permutations that may arise.
Here are the details of Tom and Doug's Exceptional Adventure aka TDEA
When: Saturday August 1, 2015
Where:
Tonasket Washington ( Rancho Chico's restaurant ) - will car pool from
Starbucks Cherry Lane at 06:00 am. It is supposed to be hot +35-38 so
need to get an early start for Sitzmark Ski Hill Climb.
Please check this link that details the ride. http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/491001608
Don't let the length of the climb scare you as it is gradual and before you know it you are at the summit.
Who: Open to all riders. This is not a supported ride so if you feel you need to bring more fluids please do so.
Please
do not feel intimidated if you can't keep up with the fast guys. The
cerveza and margarita's are usually colder for the second wave in the
restaurant and they never seem to run out. Also the second wave is
usually rewarded at the restaurant by a shot of tequila. This is a ride
tradition.
This
is not a race. Ultimately the faster and slower riders will form their
own riding groups. The total ride is approximately 130k. This is not an
easy ride but very doable by all levels at a reasonable pace.
Course:
Starting in Tonasket immediately go uphill for 19 miles to Sitzmark Ski
Area. Remember what goes up must come down. Regroup at Summit and head
back downhill into Oroville. A rest stop at the service station for
fluids and food as there will not be any fluids for 30 miles. Head west
to Nighthawk and then on to Palmer Lake for the annual swim. Public
nudity is discouraged so please keep bottoms and tops on. After the
annual swim then onto Loomis for a refueling stop and the annual beer
drinking contest
( Steve B is defending champion ) . Now we are on
the homeward stretch to Tonasket and the world famous beer and nacho
chips at Rancho Chico's.
For those who feel that the 130k is a bit too far there are two possible options.
Option
one is a loop from Tonasket back to Oroville on State Rd7 and then to
Nighthawk, Loomis and back to Tonasket. This loop does not do the 19
mile climb to the ski area but does encompass the scenic Similkameen
River, Palmer and Spectacle Lakes. This loop finishes in Tonasket and
ultimately Rancho Chicos.
Option two is a loop that would be to
climb Sitzmark with everyone but then at Oroville turn south on State
Road 7 and return to Tonasket.
What to bring: Passport, sunscreen, Visa/Mastercard with a large limit for beerItems to Consider: health insurance, we are not planning on any crashes or medicals but something to consider.
Hope
to see you all there as it promises to be a great day of riding and we
get to catch up with riders we have not seen for awhile.
